That is literally exactly what my mom does. When I was like 5, my relatives would give my brother and I red envelopes for Chinese New Years. One year I got around $1000 and my mom said she was going to “save” it. I never saw that money again.

Lmao same, everytime my aunt(the cool one) would visit she would give me and my younger brother some money sometimes inside a tiny a red envelope, me and my brother always gave it to my mum because we were scared that we would loose it. Every time we ask her for the money, she would say something to the lines of "Oh, I already stored it inside your piggy bank" and "I don't remember you giving me the money."
After a few years, me and my family were having a normal dinner, and we talked about our aunt's visit back then. She told us abt the money we gave her while cracking a smile, me and my brother were astonished.
